8 Smart Ways to Add Color to Your Space Without Painting, Straight From Designers
Rediger Design was featured in The Spruce alongside designers sharing smart ways to add color without paint. Founder Brittany Rediger contributed expert advice on using rugs as a starting point, choosing art with bold color fields over intricate imagery, layering swappable textiles seasonally, and using mirrors to reflect and amplify color around a space.
"One of the easiest ways to introduce color into a room without committing to paint is through pieces that naturally occupy a large visual footprint," says interior designer Brittany Rediger. "A rug is often my first suggestion."
Offering more coverage, larger pieces of furniture or decor can better spread color around a room. Rediger also notes that in this space of hers, she added plants for additional color and a mirror.
"It helps reflect those colors around the space and gives the impression of even more color," she says.

"I often recommend looking for pieces with bold, graphic color blocks or abstract compositions rather than very intricate imagery," explains Rediger. "Larger fields of color tend to read almost like a painted wall from across the room, creating visual impact without the permanence of paint."

Consider bedding, throw pillows and blankets, rugs, lampshades, curtains, bed frames, and chair covers, which Rediger says you can swap out seasonally or whenever your tastes shift.

Rediger recommends getting creative with your decor and finding new places for things or viewing objects in a different way.
"Tapestries or vintage rugs displayed on the wall add softness and depth, while vintage stained glass panels placed in a window or hung as decorative pieces introduce subtle color as the light shifts throughout the day," she says.
